Field
of Corn (with Osage Oranges), completed in 1994 by
Malcolm
Cochran,
consists of 109 human-sized ears of concrete corn which
stand upright in realistic row patterns throughout Sam and
Eulalia Frantz Park. It
symbolizes a celebration of Dublin's history as a farming
community and serves as a memorial to rural landscape being
consumed by urban development. The
site of Field of Corn (with Osage Oranges) was once owned by
Sam Frantz, a pioneer in corn hybridization. Field
of Corn (with Osage Oranges) was constructed with a grant
from the Dublin
Arts Council
in Dublin, Ohio. Photograph
by Erin
Malone. Lyric
from "I
Awoke In Iowa"
by Andrew Ratshin*.
Available on the Uncle
Bonsai
release, "Apology,"
on Yellow
Tail Records. Uncle
Bonsai, the Seattle-based trio featuring Arni Adler, Ashley
O'Keeffe, and Andrew Ratshin, disbanded in 1989 after 8
years of performing and recording together. Ten years later,
the group reunited to perform a series of anti-reunion shows
in Seattle, Ann Arbor, and New York City. They continue to
perform a few shows every year. Not content to repeat
themselves, each show features brand new songs and old
favorites. "Apology" contains 15 of these songs, written
between 1998 and 2000. For
more information about the group, and a calendar of upcoming
events, please visit the Uncle Bonsai web site. *
